The activities are listed per day, so it will be easier for you to pace yourself and be able to finish all the daily activities and culminating activity on time. You may go the materials page if you need to download the handouts with the activities and the worksheet for the chapter.  Remember, do not give up on your project, you can always come to my room for help.

Homework: Look for the definitions of the key terms page: 332

Activities

(For example)
Day 1
After getting the handout with the list of characteristics that you need to look for, walk around the classroom and try to find as many characteristics as you can in each one of your peers. write the name of the students with the characteristics on the worksheet. Try to determine if the characteristics are autosomal or sex-linked. Record your findings on the table. You will need to start working on your Power Point presentations starting today in order to have it ready by day six.

Homework: Answer the first page of the worksheet.

Day 2
1. Using Punnett squares determine the phenotypes of offspring resulting from the following crosses: a) a checkered rooster mated to a checkered hen, b) a checkered rooster mated to a white hen, c) a checkered rooster mated to a black hen. 2. Visit the web site http://quia.com/jg/66181.html and play the genetic games

Day 3
1.After you get the handout, measure the height of the students in the class and record the information in the data table. Then, plot a graph with the information gathered in your data table.

Homework: Using the symbols for pedigree analysis, interpret the pedigree charts. 2. Albinism, or white fur, in rabbits is due to a recessive gene. Let A=normal fur pigment, and a=no fur pigment. (For example)
Days 4-7
Day 4: Visit the Virtual Fly Lab http://vcoursware.calstatela.edu  and study the different patterns of inheritance on drosophila. Record your information on a table. Since the Virtual Fly lab is for a fee, you are going to do The Web Karyotyping instead. The web site is http://www.biology.arizona.edu/default.html Once you are on their web site click on Human Biology, then under the subheading Activities click on Web Karyotiping. Do the tree Karyotypes and answer the questions.

Day 5: After watching the video "The Spiral of Silence" write a half page report explaining  the type of genetic disease, causes of the disease (autosomal or sex-linked), if the disease was noticeable at birth, or at what age the person showed signs of the disease.
