Introductory Activities:
- Download Pretest
and download
the Periodic Table for them to use.
- Use will also need a kitchen
timer or a timer that sounds for them to keep track of how long they are
on the computer. You can purchase one at a Radio Shack for about $12
that give a count down of time every five minutes and the last five
minutes, it gives a count down every one minute.
- Go
to history and alternate designs web site to get some background
information.
- Purchase a Periodic
Table Chart at a Teacher's Store. They are about $4.00.
- Download
Stacy Miller's lesson plans
that you will be using and get what you need for those experiments.
Her plans have downloadable pages to use as well.
- Also, download a vocabulary sheet
for
them to acquaint them with the vocabulary that they will be needing.
- You will need a handful of
buttons for the button activity. These can be purchased from a Wal-Mart
at $3.00 for $4.00. You will need a worksheet for this as
well. Download worksheet.
- Grading
Rubrics for button activity, element research
activity, and comic strip activity.
- Download worksheet for
atoms.
Answers included. This will go with First Visit to computer to learn about
Matter and Atoms.

Culminating Activity:
- This will require 8X11" white xerox or computer paper, rulers for drawing
boxes, colored pencils, crayons, markers, or some type of writing
medium. Also, it would be nice to have a few comic strips from the
newspaper to show and talk about. Roger Armstrong's book
#220 How to Draw Comic Strips is super for showing how to do balloons,
expressions, movement, and composition of boxes. The publisher is
Walter Foster Publishing, Inc. Walter Foster Publishing has other
books which may provide informative instruction such as: #23
Story Cartoons, #24 Comic Characters, #221 Creating Cartoon Characters, and
#134 Animal Cartoons for drawing animals.
