| Fifth
Grade
Students will be given a pretest/posttest to see how much prior knowledge compared to knowledge they have gained after the activities. The pretest/posttest will be the same test. Questions will cover information they should already have had regarding matter, atoms, and some chemical properties. Other questions will zone in on the Periodic Table and the information that can be accessed from it. Students will be able to use a table given to them for the pretest, and will use a downloaded table that they downloaded for the posttest. The tables will be the same. The final culminating activity is where the students will use the knowledge that they have accumulated about the elements and their properties to help them write and illustrate a comic strip using elements of their own choosing and exhibiting the element's properties correctly through the character that they make up. The comic strip can also portray how we use the element. Grading Rubrics for button activity, element research activity, and comic strip activity. |
