Introduction
This project is a specific search study into the impressionistic style of western European art with an emphasis of study based on six specific painters. You could of course expand it to include other painters, but I found that the restriction defined the subject matter, painting technique, color usage for the advantage of reflection and there was no confusion with post-impressionists or other artists.

Instructional Objectives

  • To familiarize high school students with the impressionistic era of western European art.
  • Introduce high school students to six prominent impressionistic painters.
  • Edgar Degas (1834-1917)
  • Claude Monet (1840-1926)
  • Paul Cézanne (1839-1906)
  • Eduoard Manet (1832-1883)
  • Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919)
  • Mary Cassatt (1845-1926)
  • Discuss use of pointillist painting style and composition explored during this era
