Dear
Employee:
On
behalf of Market Madness Investing I would like to welcome you to the
world of high finance. It is my great pleasure to extend to you the
opportunity to experience the thrills and excitement of the New York Stock
Exchange.
As
a precursor to our financial experience, I would like to explain some
basic rules and expectations.
I:
Mission Statement
The purpose of the Market Madness experience is to provide students
with the opportunity to learn from the hazards and thrills of Stock Market
investing in a “near real-world” setting.
II:
Objective
Every student will gain a broader and deeper understanding of the
impact the actions of the marketplace has on our day-to-day lives.
III:
Project Description
Students will organize corporate teams to assemble, market, and
monitor mutual funds. All
services will be directed to a fictional client in the person of Mr.
Pechtl. Any advice required will be available only from a fictional
supervisor (in the person of Mr. Pechtl) or from outside resources.
Student will be provided with approximately one hour per week in
class to work on the project. Students
are expected to complete the majority of the work outside of class time.
Students will communicate with their client only by mail or email
with the exception of one face-to-face meeting to take place in April.
IV:
Admonishments and Warnings
All students are expected to participate fully in this project.
Groups are expected to work together and to work out any
difficulties. Should a
problem appear to be irreconcilable, the teacher may intervene.
Grading will involve group and individual grades,
and may require group agreement to grade dispersal.
Putting this project off until the end of the semester is a sure
way to fail the project. BEWARE
- this project should take approximately 30 - 65 hours outside of class.
It will also involve substantial financial commitment.
If you have any questions please contact me.
Sincerely,
Darrell W. Pechtl
