Introductory:  

     Students will begin the lesson by preparing a collage of ads for products they like or are curious about.  They are expected to obtain the Web Address for each company as well.  These ad collages will be shared with their classmates.

 

Enabling

     Using the previously assembled collages as a starting point, students will begin assembling stock portfolios.  Library time will be provided for in-depth research of each company listed in the portfolio.  

      Students will advertise their services to their client, suggesting which types of stocks they will invest in, and what charges are involved.  The Client will issue a check to each group.  The amount provided will depend upon various business competition factors. 

      On a day designated by the teacher, all students will "buy" stocks on behalf of their client.

       After "buying" their stocks, students will track the daily changes in the value of their stock holdings.  

 

Culminating:

      Approximately 10 weeks into the project the student groups will present a Powerpoint based presentation to their "client" which summarizes the portfolio performance.

     Two weeks after the Presentation, students will "sell off" all stocks in the portfolio.  They will have one week to assemble a final "Portfolio" containing all research, background materials, drafts, reports, and a final summary report for the client.
