Instructional Objectives

  1.  During the lesson, students will concentrate on four dinosaurs: Tyrannosaurs Rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops,  and  Diplocodous. Students and teacher will construct a KWL chart to find what they know about these dinosaurs, what they want to find out about these dinosaurs and what they learned about these dinosaurs.

  2. Through the use of fictional books, educational videos, several charts and websites students will engage in active discussions to classify and describe dinosaurs according to physical characteristics

  3. Students will engage in teacher directed lessons to read, discuss and understand facts about different dinosaurs.

  4. Students will interact in explicit instruction to write about the physical characteristics of dinosaurs.

         Student Activities

Introductory Activities
As an introduction,  students will take the pretest  to find out how much students know about dinosaurs. Then, students will construct a KWL chart containing what students know about dinosaurs, what students want to learn about dinosaurs. At the end of the lesson students will complete the last part of the chart about what they have learned.
Enabling Activities
Students will view books, videos, charts and will visit  http://wwwdinosaurland.com/gallery.html  and view a dinosaur gallery. Students will visit http://www.discovery.com/exp/fossilzone/sounds/dinosounds.html and will hear the sounds dinosaurs made. Students will visit http://www.billybear4kids.com/dinosaurs/jigsaws.html. In this web site students will complete dinosaur jigsaw puzzles.

Culminating Activities
As a culminating activity, students will be giving a blank lined sheet. Students will then chose one of the dinosaurs studied and write at least three physical characteristics about their dinosaur. Their product will be put together as a book.
